Most of us have smartphones or vehicles that contain a gps system. This seems like a wonderful advantage but there are some disadvantages to these options. These disadvantages are significant enough to cause me to purchase a portable gps system.
- Battery life- I hate when my phone gets below 50% and using its GPS system causes the battery to drain very quickly.
- When you are using your car gps, you almost always have to take it in to the dealer to have them update it before any car trip. Not only is this time consuming, its very expensive.
- Not being able to play games on my phone or surf the web without being interrupted by the gps unit is very annoying.
- Most gps car units use the same screen as your radio. I don’t know about y’all but I enjoy seeing who is singing “that” song on the radio and not having to switch back and forth.
After so much research and checking all online retailers, I opted for the Garmin nuvi 67LM 6″ 010-01399-01 Essential Series 2015 GPS Navigation System w Lifetime Maps Portable Friction Mount Bundle. I purchased it from Amazon because the price was the lowest and I love Amazon’s return policy.
I have now had this system for about 2 months and it does everything that I need it too. There are a few bells and whistles such as beeping once when you are going above the speed limit as well as when you are entering a school zone. It shows upcoming restaurants and gas stations as well as you can change your vehicle from a car to a truck. This system comes with free lifetime updates which is a must with so much construction going on throughout the U.S.
Overall I absolutely recommend this Garmin gps for your next adventure!
One of the lists that I always make up before a trip, is a list of items I want to buy ahead of time. With this years road trip quickly approaching, I knew I needed to get on it!
My daughter is just at the age that she can write, take pictures and draw. So I decided this would be a perfect trip for her to scrapbook her way through. Her and I are going to make the scrapbook portion ahead of time so that she can just glue pictures down, add her words and drawings during the trip.
This led me to wonder how I was going to get the pictures while we were on the road. I love to use Costco for all my photo needs but what a pain in the butt to have to find one in each town that we stop in. I started doing some research on the portable printers.
These portable photo printers range from 70$-150$ and from all of the reviews, they appear to be old school Polaroid print quality. At first that turned me off but the more I thought about it I came to terms with it. I know I’m going to get all of the pictures developed at Costco eventually so these pictures will just be for the scrapbook and might even look cool if they are of lesser quality, especially for a travel scrapbook.
After a few months of going back and forth on which one I wanted to get, I chose the Canon Selphy CP1200 White Wireless Color Photo Printer. It is larger than some of the other portable printers but I like that it can print different sizes, including 4×6. You can print from your smart devices and plug-in your memory stick to print from your camera. All you need is a wi-fi single if you are printing via air. The ink and photo paper is sold together so that there is no waste. There is only enough ink in each box to print the amount of sheets included. The quality is much better then I thought it was going to be and with the program Pic Frame, you can print all different sizes of pictures.
I have had a lot of fun with it so far and I cannot wait to take it on our adventures and print our memories same day! This is definitely an item you are going to want to have for all of your vacations.
